Videojuegos adaptados a Películas

4 video games that were transferred to the screen + a bonus 🎮

Let's be honest, who doesn't like video games these days? Thanks to the immense variety of titles that we can find in game catalogs, we can choose the one we like the most, and we even have the opportunity to search for those old video games that we liked so much when we were children.

There is no doubt, video games are here to stay, and the big production houses know it. That is why in recent years they have set their eyes on these creations, with the hope that films and series based on these titles will achieve success and impact on audiences.

Are they achieving it? Although some productions have left much to be desired, today we bring you 5 proposals that, without a doubt, have reaped considerable amounts of profits for various streaming media and the big screen itself.

Do you want to know what they are? Let's go see them.

Arcane

We're off to a strong start with one of Netflix's most successful series, so far. Although Arcane does not yet have a sequel, the premiere of the first season broke the internet to impressive levels. The reason? The story behind the series based on the popular League of Legends game, its art and soundtrack.

Thanks to the fact that the series was made with fans in mind, but taking into account those who had never played the game, people were able to understand what the story was behind Vi and Powder, two sisters who were orphaned because of the war. and that because of a serious misunderstanding they found themselves having to grow up alone, tormented and rejected by what they had become.

There is no doubt that Arcane has become another of the many gold mines that the streaming platform has, so we hope that they will give news about its next season very soon.

The last of us

Second candidate on the list, and this time we move from Netflix to HBO Max, or MAX, as it will soon be renamed.

When the announcement came out that the platform was interested in producing a series based on the popular survival game, many fans doubted the final product. To be honest, some of us also had our reservations, since we have seen the consequences of releasing a disastrous adaptation of a video game. Fortunately, for us and the HBO executives themselves, The Last of Us not only demonstrated that a quality live action series can be produced based on the script of a video game, but also that non-gamers are capable of being interested. in a plot coming from a game, to the point of worrying about the future of the characters.

In this post-apocalyptic series we follow Joel and Ellie, a pair who are not related in any way and who are ultimately very different, except for one thing: they are human, and they are willing to do anything to preserve their lives. Throughout their journey we not only meet other survivors of the catastrophic event that caused all that mess, but we also encounter terrible creatures that will ultimately give us one or another nightmare.

Super Mario Bros.

In September 2020, Nintendo announced a partnership with Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind movies like "Despicable Me" and "Minions." Its purpose? Create an animated Super Mario Bros. movie that far surpasses what we were given decades ago, including the strange live-action product from 1993.

Produced by Shigeru Miyamoto himself, and the founder of Illumination Entertainment, Chris Meledandri, the film was expected to be a good product. However, before its release, several comments from critics arose that made us doubt the film a little.

It's a good thing we didn't get carried away by his words, because if we had we would have missed out on one of the best animated films of the year. Literal.

Although we will not give more information about the film, why it is still in theaters, what we can say is that the film is set in the universe of the games and includes the iconic brothers, Mario and Luigi, Princess Peach, the fearsome Bowser, the friendly Toad and the charismatic Donkey Kong.

Have you already convinced yourself to go see the movie?

Resident Evil

You have to be honest. Although Resident Evil is one of the most successful video game franchises in the world, its live action adaptations almost always leave much to be desired. Yes, from the films produced by Paul WS Anderson to the infamous “Welcome to Raccoon city” and the series that Netflix released. All of those products have their flaws and fans are well aware that they probably won't be able to get a decent movie or series for a long, long time.

However, there is another series of films and series in the franchise that is doing much better in terms of numbers and recommendations. We do not refer to products in CGI.

Consisting of Resident Evil: Degeneration (Degeneration), Resident Evil Damnation (Hell), Resident Evil Vendetta (Revenge) and Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, these films and series not only rescue the original history of the franchise, but also provide us with new data about the games while continuing with the central plot.

Why, yes, these movies fall within the canon of the games, so we can say that their appearance is well justified and is even necessary to know some details in the games. Precisely for that last reason, many fans are excited about the next movie to be released in the series “Resident Evil: Death Island”. Why, it seems, will not only provide us with important data for the franchise, but will fulfill the dream of many of seeing the original protagonists fighting together against a serious threat.

What will happen to them and what mysteries does the plot of Death Island hide? In a few weeks we will find out.

Bonus: Star Wars Jedi

Thanks to the success of the Star Wars game biology, up to this point, a series of rumors have emerged which Disney has not denied. Since 2022, various notes have been published where it has been commented that, thanks to the excellent numbers that Jedi Fallen Order, and now Jedi Survivor, has accumulated, the alliance of Disney and Lucasfilm has begun talks to transfer the adventure of young Cal Kestis to your streaming channel.

That's how it is. Although we still do not have direct confirmation, more and more pages specialized in video games are talking about the news, so could Disney give us a surprise? Will we soon see Cal and company on Disney+, just as we did with “The Mandalorian”, “The Book of Boba Fett” or “Obi-Wan Kenobi”?

Let's hope so.

And that's it for today's entry about video games transferred to the screen. If you are interested in learning more about playable news and movie premieres, we recommend the following entries.

Stay tuned.
