Twitch, or the purple platform as some know it, has grown exponentially in recent years. To provide some context, its beginnings date back to June 2007 when its creators (then Justin.Tv) decided to create a platform to broadcast a kind of reality show about their lives. Years later, they decided to focus their efforts on this new idea, with E-Sports being the main vision. Later, in 2014, it was acquired by Amazon for no less than $970 million.
Today, Twitch has over 140 million active users per month, more than 30 million daily visits, and the average user viewing time is 95 minutes per day. We no longer only find video game content; it's also a space to broadcast music tutorials, recording sessions, drawing techniques, cooking recipes,
there are even curious things like live streams of people sleeping, can you believe it? This attracted people completely unrelated to the gaming world to this platform because there is a whole range of possibilities and content.
During the pandemic, many people were forced to stay at home, which led to a surge in video game streaming as many people saw it as a viable option to occupy their time, including established footballers, politicians, or YouTubers. This leads us to the next question: Can you make money streaming? The answer is: Yes. Is it complicated? A little, but let's see how to get started:
Getting Started on Twitch
First and foremost, as with any platform, you must register and create an account. It's quick and easy, and you can do it from the web portal or the app (If you have Amazon Prime, you will receive some extra benefits such as free games every month among other things with the "Prime Gaming" extension).
You must complete your entire profile in the dashboard. Here you will find the settings for your stream titles, descriptions, language, your profile picture, and many more tools necessary for managing your channel, which we will look at later.
Affiliate and Partner Programs
To join this program (and start monetizing in the future), you must accumulate 500 minutes of broadcast time in the last 30 days with an average of at least 3 viewers, and pay attention, this must be over 7 different days.
Subsequently, there is another higher level than affiliate, which is to become a Twitch Partner.
To achieve this, you must broadcast at least 25 hours during the month, over 12 different days, and with an average of 75 viewers in your streams, how about that?
We know it doesn't sound easy, but we believe that by doing things well and putting in the effort, you can become one of the top content creators. No streamer woke up overnight with thousands of subscribers; it's all little by little. Don't despair and above all, don't give up!
